North Fort Myers sits across the Caloosahatchee from Fort Myers proper
It has one of the oldest populations in the county. Nearly half of residents are 65 or over, and the median age is 64. It is a community of long-time residents, established parks and neighborhoods where people have known each other for decades.
That profile changes what walks through our door.

What we tend to see from North Fort Myers
Two things come up far more often here than in younger communities.
The first is valve disease, and aortic stenosis in particular. The valve between the heart and the body stiffens with age, the opening narrows, and the heart has to push harder through a smaller gap. It comes on slowly, which is exactly the problem: people put the breathlessness on the stairs down to getting older, and the dizziness down to the heat. It is often a spouse who notices before the patient does.
The second is atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm that becomes much more common past 65. Some people feel it as a flutter or a thump. Plenty of people feel nothing at all, and it is picked up at an unrelated appointment. It matters because it raises stroke risk, and because that risk is very treatable once it is known about.
Neither of these announces itself. Both are worth checking if something has changed in what you can comfortably do.
What we do
Dr. [Physician Name] is an interventional and structural cardiologist. Structural means the valves and the walls of the heart itself, which is the side of cardiology most relevant to an older community. Where a narrowed aortic valve needs replacing, transcatheter aortic valve replacement can often do it through a catheter rather than open-heart surgery, and many people are home within a day or two. Where a coronary artery is blocked, angioplasty and a stent can open it through the wrist.
Alongside that, the everyday work: blood pressure, cholesterol, chest pain, heart failure, rhythm problems, and circulation in the legs.
Getting to us
We are at 13411 Parker Commons Blvd, on the north side of Daniels Parkway between I-75 and Six Mile Cypress. From North Fort Myers that means crossing the river: US 41 south over the Caloosahatchee Bridge, or I-75 south to the Daniels Parkway exit if you are coming from the eastern side.
We know what that crossing is like in season. If getting here is difficult, say so when you book. It is better for us to know before the appointment than to have you miss one.
FAQs
Questions we get from North Fort Myers
I get out of breath on the stairs now. Isn't that just age?
It might be. But breathlessness that is new, or that has changed over the past year, is worth looking at rather than assuming. Aortic stenosis and heart failure both present exactly that way, and both are treatable. Getting it checked and being told it is nothing is a good outcome, not a wasted visit.
I'm 82. Am I too old for a heart procedure?
Age alone does not rule anything out. For aortic valve replacement, current guidance actually favors the catheter approach over open surgery in patients over 80. What matters is the whole picture, and that is a conversation, not a number.
Can my results go to my regular doctor?
Yes, and they should. Tell us who they are when you book and we will send everything across.
